Upon locating in Block House Creek just two years ago, Luanne Miller immediately took the initiative to become involved in Block House Creek activities—assisting with distributing and retrieving flags on the Fourth of July, ardently supporting her granddaughters and their Tidal Waves activities (missing only one swim meet in order to attend the Association’s Safety and Defense Class), and assisting other gardeners in ensuring the success of the Community Garden project. On behalf of fellow gardeners, she can often be seen watering and adding mulch to their beds. When produce is ripe, she eagerly shares with other gardeners and neighbors. Luanne also enjoys volunteering as a Board member of the Ladies Club at her church.

Asked what led Luanne and her husband to locate in Block House Creek, the answer was instantaneous. Luanne’s daughter, son-in-law, and grandkids are nearby. Says Luanne, “Our instructions to our realtor were to look nowhere else! We knew this to be a great neighborhood, one that communicates, which makes it a SAFE neighborhood. For me, getting involved has made Block House Creek an even greater place to live!”

When her husband passed away, Luanne shares that the community came out in force to offer their support. “They cleaned the house. They brought meals and fresh flowers. They were the perfect example of a cohesive group of people who care about each other. When you’ve been on the receiving end of such kindness, your heart sincerely wants to give back.”

Luanne has favorite BHC OA-sponsored events—Music on the Green, Fourth of July activities—especially the flags, food trucks, and the live singing of the National Anthem, but it is the Community Gardens she savors the most. “I feel so fortunate to have a space in the Community Garden project and truly enjoy working not only with other gardeners, but with people throughout the neighborhood!  Today, I’m not known throughout the neighborhood only as Cynthia’s Mom!”

Heartiest congratulations to Outstanding Volunteer Luanne Miller and hugs to granddaughters and Tidal Waves swimmers Olivia (L) and Charlotte (R)!
